Local authorities are key players when it comes to maintaining a high quality of life
at a sustainable level. LA21 is a useful tool for this, giving all interested parties an
opportunity to be involved in making decisions about the community's future. SAIL has
helped local authorities in the target countries undertake Local Agenda 21s by producing
informational and promotional materials in local languages, which facilitates LA21
preparation as well as help generate public interest.
Early in the year 2000, meetings were held in each target country to present these
materials. Furthermore, the meetings engendered co-operation and facilitated networking
for LA21 activities among local administrations, national, regional and local
organisations and individuals involved or interested in LA21.
