Who have been involved in SAIL

Project work has been undertaken through the sharing of knowledge and experience among project partners through-out the Baltic Sea region. This was accomplished through a series of workshops held in each of the target countries, where preparations are made for development of LA21 materials. Co-ordinated by the city of Lahti (Finland), project partners include the following:

  • City of Tartu (Estonia)
  • City of Jurmala (Latvia)
  • City of St. Petersburg (Russia)
  • ECAT - Environmental Centre for Administration and Technology (Kaunas, Lithuania)
  • UBC - Union of the Baltic Cities (Gdansk, Poland and Turku, Finland)
  • ICLEI - The International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives, European Secretariat (Freiburg, Germany).

The project was also utilising the contributions of consultants from western Baltic Region countries, who provided expertise on important elements of Local Agenda 21.

A local project expert has been designated in each of the target countries (see below). They have been the primary contact people between SAIL and Local Agenda 21-related activities within their countries. Working with the other SAIL partners, they have been promoting and raising awareness for the Project, organising the workshops and national meetings, managing the production and dissemination of LA21 materials, and facilitating the networking of LA21 activities.

Local people and organisations involved in LA21-related activities have been encouraged to participate in SAIL activities, including the roundtables held during the workshops, where LA21-related topics of local and national interest have been discussed in a spirit of co-operation.
